Waste compactor unveiled in Temple Bar

A substantial waste compactor unit has been unveiled at the edge of Dublin’s Temple Bar as part of a trial of the waste collection model for the capital.

The large van-sized unit, at the junction of Dame Street and Fownes Street Upper, will be available from next week for businesses and residents in the pilot area.

It will handle their black bin waste and can take up to 500 bin bags of refuse.

These will then be crushed to between a quarter and a third of their original size, to be collected the following morning by the scheme operators, Panda and KeyGreen.
